with erica in a few minutes. >> we begin with the massive flooding in daly city. winner of the reservoir ruptured that sent 45,000 gal. of water down hill. it affected for blocks. the pipe had been in use since the early 1930's. no homes were flooded but 12 homes were evacuated as a precaution. there is no report of injuries. >> cleanup started immediately yesterday morning. as of last night they are putting the finishing touches on the massive cleanup. four streets were flooded. it took time to dig the cars out. here is what residents in the area had to say. >> i was like wow. it cleared out quickly. by 5:00 all the cars on the left side in the mud was gone. i thought it would be longer. i'm sure it would be longer to assess what happened spirit that park is gone. >> has some as i stepped outside everything was covered with mud i cannot see the street. my car was engulfed with mud. when i walked on the street it was up to my knees. >> when we walked out we saw mud all over the place. >> when we first left the house of mud was first starting to, you could see mud covering the grass from

the clock in the daly city neighborhood buried by a mud slide. they are trying to shore up the hillside before the rain hits. cbs 5 reporter joe vazquez with how exactly they are doing that. joe. >> reporter: hey, allen. from this perspective you can see the neighborhood here and then way up on the hillside you can see that huge crater where all that water came spewing out of yesterday. it cuts right to left and it barely missed the homes here. now there's another concern, a storm is in the forecast. stacking hay and clearing storm drains, two tasks that have daly city crews hard at work today. the hay is being used to contain the substantial mud still covering nearby hillside park. they will clean that mud up later because right now, they are focused on what they call weatherization making sure the upcoming rainstorms aren't going to do more damage to the neighborhood. it turns out yesterday's mud slide swamped all the storm drains so now workers are having to find them and then dig them out so they can help divert any rain. >> so we're going to take our remote control tv camera to go

in the forecast this week that means crews will be back in a daly city neighborhood this morning. yesterday a water pipe broke and flooded several streets around lausanne avenue with water and mud. amy hollyfield is there live. >> reporter: it looks so much better out here. it is amazing. they still have work to do. this time yesterday we were standing in mud, quite an improvement this morning. they spent all day yesterday working on cleaning up this neighborhood. they were shoveling mud and hauling it out and taking it to a recycle place in brisbane. four blocks of this neighborhood were coated in mud after a pipe broke at 4:25 in the morning that released 45,000 gallons of water. it was rushing into this neighborhood it brought the hillside down with it and a lot of mud. now they are worried about the rain in the forecast later this week. today they will be working onshoring up this hillside park. >> the next three days we are going to be winterizing the park which means putting bales of hay out to absorb moisture, mud and debris, sandbags and everything that we can to secure the park. >>

when the ambulance arrived. live in oakland, ken wayne. >>> police in san francisco say a daly city woman has surrendered, and has admitted she is responsible for a hit and run accident involving a bicyclity. it happened monday in the presidio. the woman surrendered last night, after police reported that police were looking for a hit-and-run driver. the cyclist told us he suffered a major concussion. he also lost his bike, which he says was stuck to the front of the vehicle. the damaged bike was later found. police say the woman apologized, but is being charged with felony hit-and- run. her name still hasn't been released. >>> more problems tonight for toyota. the company is recalling hundreds of thousands of prius hybrids. many prius owners are just now hearing about this recall. >> reporter: frank, many toyota customers told us they bought a prius because of its gas mileage and dependability. tonight, school teacher marian mark drove her 2007 prius to the downtown toyota of oakland dealership to get her tires checked. she told us she wasn't aware of the latest recall. >> if there'

. crews in daly city are working feverishly to clear out that massive mudslide before it gets even worse. nbc bay area's christie smith shows us what is being done, and why neighbors are still concerned. >> reporter: no sleeping in today. the front loader started at day break at hillside park, moving the mudslide by emanuel romero's home. >> i think if there is anything about the integrity hill that we needed to be worried about, they would tell us. we're assuming things are safe for now. >> reporter: his car was towed back to his house when it was nearly buried yesterday when a pipe broke, sending 45,000 gallons of water, sand, and mud down the same avenue, and now heavy rain is coming. >> if we're going to be bringing in some hay bales and uncovering where the storm drains have been covered over. >> reporter: he says the engineers say the 12 homes that were evacuate ready safe, but they need geotek cal advice on permanent repairs to the hill. for now it's about diverting rainwater. >> once we get the weather taken care we can sequentially take the mud out of the park itself. right now
